Bakelite

A few years ago I replaced the worn off door handles of my 1930′s apartment by vintage bakelite ones. They fit quite well in the interior although the original ones were made of brass. The current ones are being reproduced nowadays but not made of bakelite since production of this early type of plastic is forbidden for health saftey reasons. It was invented by and named after Belgian American Leo Baekeland around 1907.
