This odd hotel in Zaandam has a pastiche facade made up of facades of the nearby historical village of Zaanse Schans. The hotel was designed by Rotterdam-based architects Molenaar van Winden. Afterwards I visited the village itself which has been turned into a theme park with dozens of flocking tourists. With souvenir shops and fake bakeries and post office, it actually looked more phony than its copy further down. It kind of makes you realise the blurring distinction between real and fake.
