English South Coast

White cliffs and green field along the coastline of English county Dorset. A few years ago I did a day walk along the coastal path which extends all the way to Land’s End, the most south western point of mainland Britain.

Roofscape Venice

View over Venice from the top of the central Campanile tower on the San Marco square. Looking to the north here you can see some palaces lining up along the Canal Grande in the center of the picture.

View on Isola di San Giorgio Maggiore (Saint George Island) in the Venetian Lagoon. It is located just east of La Giudecca. On the island is the church of Saint George (Basilica di San Giorgio Maggiore) designed by Andrea Palladio one of the greatest Renaissance architects. I visited the island last year november and went to see the exhibition on the work of Giovanni Battista Piranesi, the 18th century architect and printmaker. This exhibition took place in the adjacent Saint George Monastery and was organized by the CINI foundation (Fondazione CINI).

foggy venice

Hazy day in Venice, last november. At the right the ancient wall of the Arsenale, the former Venetian shipyard. After strolling through a maze of dark and narrow alleys, entering this tiny square (Campo de le Gorne) felt like a scene from a dream.

Knivskjelodden

Knivskjelodden in Norway is the northernmost point of mainland Europe, located just a few kilometers west of North Cape. Technically both North Cape and Knivskjelodden are on an island which is connected to the real mainland by a tunnel. So basically Knivskjelodden is as far as you can drive north in Europe. That day in June 2003 the peninsula was covered in a single cloud. We hiked there around midnight to see the sun go down until it almost touched the horizon before it slowly started to rise again.
