Sun dog
Sun dog or scientifically known as parhelium. It is a atmospheric phenomenon creating bright spots of light on either side of the sun. According to Wikipedia the sun dogs are made commonly of plate-shaped hexagonal ice crystals in high and cold cirrus clouds or, during very cold weather, by ice crystals called diamond dust drifting in the air at low levels. These crystals act as prisms, bending the light rays passing through them with a minimum deflection of 22°.
Bijzon of wetenschappelijk bekend als parhelium. Het is een atmosferish verschijnsel dat plekken helder licht aan weerszijden van de zon veroorzaakt. Volgens Wikipedia worden de bijzonnen gemaakt van ijskristallen in hoge en koude cirruswolken of als het weer erg koud is door ijswolken die laag in de atmosfeer hangen. Deze kristallen functioneren als prisma’s en buigen de lichtstralen met minimaal 22°.
