Very interesting exhibition called Usures at the Belgian pavilion at the 12th Biennale inVenice, Italy. The belgians of Rotor have investigated the phenomenon of material wear in buildings. They have presented random parts of exisiting building interiors and taken them out of their context. By doing so they show the beauty of used everyday materials and turning them into a piece of art, Arte Povera. But mostly the exhibition underlines that – contrary to general believe – material wear is not something that can or should be avoided at all costs but it is an inevitable process that reflects the very basics of architecture, human activities.

Picture of our ‘Autofficina’ exhibition at the Salone del Mobile in Milan last April, organized by a group of upcoming Dutch Designers. The exhibition took place in a former car garage in the new design district of Ventura Lambrate. One of the exhibited items was my expandable REK bookcase.
